The mural at Agate Bay
Just wondering if anyone has a photo of the mural that used to be on the old store at Agate Bay, Lake Whatcom, Bellingham Wa? This was a pretty neat mural with the lake, a sailboat and a stone stairway. Too bad the new owners just decided to paint over it. Guess they know what they’re doing, but it was a bit of a shock they did that. I noticed we were not the only ones in the neighborhood to be dismayed. Anyway, if anyone has a photo of the mural and could scan and email a copy to me I would love post it somewhere on my site. I would also like to include the artist’s name as well. Any information would be appreciated. e-mail
There’s a bit of history to that old building. Here’s what little I know - it’s not much, but here goes: The place for many years was called The Agate Bay Store, then Agate Bay Gourmet, then Grammy’s, and now it is to be The Fork at Agate Bay. For probably more than 50 years kids have used it as a school bus stop. Most owners allowed the kids to wait right in front where they could come in out of the rain if needed. Other owners chased the kids to the corner down by the trailer park. I remember the first time I shopped at the store. It had a gas station, grocery store and a cafe complete with arcade machine. The chile was the best! I would buy gas for my VW bug there on my way home from work. If you have any fond memories of this old place go ahead and share it here.
Thanks.
