Twittering

Friday, August 21st, 2009

Well, I have been using Twitter using Sitewryte as my username. So far it has been a good way to stay up to date on local stuff like news, job leads, politics and what some friends who use twitter are doing. I have connected with a few others worldwide with same interests like wildlife, ecology, webdesign and so forth. For fun I also “follow” ones like William Shatner, George RR Martin and John Clease!

At first I was not even sure what Twitter was or how it could benefit me in any way…figuring just one more thing to sign up for that eats time, but I found it to be useful and I can log in daily or whenever I want. You can even twitter from your phone if you have texting.

Here’s a video that can tell you more about Twitter, how to get started and how to best use it for personal use or for your business:

In Ferndale WA - Botanical Laboratories and Vitamin D

  Botanical Laboratories Vitamin D
You should check out this site where one of my sons works.(Morgan) This local company, Botanical Laboratories, produces, among other healthy things, a product callled Wellesse Vitamin D3 that can help eliminate deficiencies in Vitamin D found in so many people living in the darker colder climates - like where we live in NW Washington.

Since upping my vitamin D intake I feel more energetic, lost a lot of those aches in my legs, there’s been an easing up on my sinus problems and lost some unwanted fat too.

Wellesse Vitamin D3 Liquid
can be mixed with juice or taken by spoon. This stuff tastes really good - mild and not a “taste bud shocker” at all.

You might consider checking with your doctor to find out if you are deficient in vitamin D. Find out about the benefits of taking higher amounts vitamin D because the standard multi vitamin supplement won’t contain enough or the right kind of vitamin d to make much of a difference.

Botanical Laboratories is located in Ferndale Washington: http://botlab.com/

And here is more on vit d and teens: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29642547/

To purchase Wellesse Vitamin D3 Liquid 1000 Iu, 1.22 lbs Bottle (Pack of 3) click here.

You might take a few minutes and do a search on Vitamin D deficiencies and see what you come up with. What I have been reading lately is just amazing.

“Art”

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

A while back I started helping a few local artist friends put up gallery websites. Lately have been trying my hand at creating some computer generated art of my own.
Community for Fine Artists and Fine Art Galleries

Buy Fine Art Originals and Prints
These were made using a free program call Apophysis 2.0 and another program (not so free) called Paint Shop Pro 6.
Anyway, it’s a lot of fun, but is a time-sucker like all my other projects. Fun is good though, right?

Cat Up a Tree?

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Western Star Tree Service -cat rescuersA while back one of our cats, Bootsie, went up a tree and could not get down. Any move he made was upward. We figured by morning he would be down and ready to be let inside. But nope. He was at least 50 feet up by then and howling with the most sad voice.

I phoned the local humane society ro ask if they could recommend a tree climber who might come out and do a rescue, but (Monday morning) I was greeted with a message machine telling me they were closed. I called their extension which on their website indicated would get me in touch with a 24/7 help desk, but was greeted with another away message.

So I did a search online and came up with Western Star Tree Service in the Bellingham area. I asked if they had anyone there who would rescue a cat from a tree and was told they did this! Yaaa! Then I asked how much they charged for this service and though the price was high it was worth it to find someone who knows about cats, likes them and who has done this sort of thing before.

Russ from Western Star Tree Service came right out and with some impressive climbing gear and a duffle for the cat he scampered like a monkey right up the tree. He spent time near the top where Boots was lodged talking to him to calm him before securing him inside the bag which he had fastened to his harness. While this was going on we observed 3 eagles (huge ones!) coasting overhead. I figure when Boots was crying it was like a dinner bell to these raptors.

The tree climber brought our Bootsie back down in good and grateful condition. My kids were so happy.

Why is it cats by nature know so many things one of which is how to climb up, but coming back down is not one of them?

Ergonomics and Proper Tools for the Job

A couple years ago I found online a business that sells ergonomic mop handles.
These are designed to eliminate some of the problems associated with the repetitive motion in mopping.
Especially good design for those required to mop huge areas or rough surfaces such as those found in industrial kitchens. The write up stated something about saving workers from shoulder injuries…
I remember emailing both my manager and the head custodian at the time with the information I had found regarding the mop handles, but received no response at all from either of them.On my website for custodial workers a member has brought up some points regarding ergonomic equipment. If you’d like to read more try the site’s forum. Here’s the address: http://s10.invisionfree.com/custodian/

Job Injuries - Collecting data

INJURED ON THE JOB and not allowed medical care?

Share your pain:

On the job injury issues? Anybody with similar problem to mine? L and I issues, worker’s comp, managed care, IME’s…Injured on the job and Independent Medical Examiners (IME) reports thru a worker’s comp service keeping me from care and treatment. For over a year now and still in pain with loss of movement. The worker’s comp company was contracted by my past employer to keep L and I costs down (like an HMO?) They have made it nearly impossible for an injured worker to get proper treatment.

If you have a story like mine I would like to communicate. I would like to collect as much data as possible related to this. Remaining anonymous is ok.

I have a lawyer now, but advice and exchanges of information might help us all. Perhaps I should dedicate a new website for this? Comments? Ever had to get a lawyer to try to get past these inhumane hurdles? Anyone have success?

Phone Bills aka Pits of Heck

Having had so much trouble again and again with my billings with Cingular I thought I would paste this following information I just found posted on the Craiglist. And wish to thank whomever the author is. Thanks!

How funny that I saw this today, as yesterday, I was browsing the net, and ran across the very site that the guy in the other ad listed. The ring tones aren’t really free. Ok..maybe the ringtones are free…but the service that you have to sign up for (at 5.99 and 9.99 per month) makes it NOT FREE.

The site tells you to put in your phone number to see if you are eligible for ringtones, and then it starts sending you text messages with a PIN number that you are supposed to enter in order to get the free ring tones. But unless you read the terms and conditions VERY VERY CAREFULLY (which you should do anyway) that pops up AFTER you enter your number (which you have to do before it even gives you ANY information) you don’t know that you, entering that PIN number is stating that you want to subscribe to the service.

So, please be aware. They aren’t free. And the text messages haven’t stopped yet.

Just thought I would give people a “head’s up!”

The Big freeze-out

L&I Issues, my Custodial Story continues: the big freeze out of 2005

Custodial workers have one of the hardest and most unappreciated jobs. What they do is a vitally important job in supporting, maintaining schools, teachers and other support staff not to mention parents and relatives who attend those after school functions, such as games, meetings, band, choir, orchestra, plays, etc. Most are asked to do more than their assigned tasks. Assigned tasks? Most are assigned tasks that are nearly impossible to complete in the time given. Then they have those extras… More tasks get added and time gets taken away. What happens to most workers is that with the repetitve motion of mopping, sweeping, window washing, bleacher set ups, chair and table set ups and put aways, etc., is that they are very likely to sustain some sort of injury.

My injury occured from multitasking: trying to complete my tasks …the hurry of getting my regular tasks done as well as extras of an event set-up (bleachers, chairs and long table set ups). Then while tossing garbage into the dumpster my shouder was injured, was torn. I have broken a bone before and this hurt worse. Now the wonderful district I worked for - to have the least expenditure had hired a go-between to L&I. I cannot get the shoulder repaired, told it’s in my mind and have been sent to independent exams (IME) which are basically doctors paid by that company to say it is in my mind. Still in pain was sent back to work, had to go home to recover, ice and pain meds, then sent back to be reinjured…again and again until I resigned. Now I am hanging in the wind with an injury that has not been repaired, no job, no income, no insurance. They are still trying to close the claim and send me forth to those IME doctors who are hired to try to close the claim.

I am thinking this must have happened to others. I am sure of it. Such a lack of honor on the part of the school districts to treat their employees like throwaways. I am beyond disappointed in them.

These are the people who educate my children. What have my children learned recently? What my children have learned is that the school district threw away their mom. They learned that managed care is a lowest of the low. They learned that when you work for someone that most likely you won’t be considered “part of the family”, but instead a thing to be tossed when broken. They learned that our school district values money over lives.

Ironically, what has happened in my opinion is that more money has been spent keeping me from proper medical care than if they had just let the doctor do his job in the first place. Pissed? Yep!

Chilled Out or Respected?

Custodians, Janitors, Support Staff…Chilled Out or Respected?

Do you remember any of the custodial staff from when you attended school? Are you or were you ever a part of the teaching staff? I am (was) a custodial worker. I have been treated as one of the family so to speak by many, but have also felt frozen out by some. If a teacher has it in their frame of mind that some people have more worth than another and actually emotes this in front of students…this is so wrong. Anyway, I just want you to think about it, okay? For custodial workers all over the world I made the following website:http://custodian.info/

For the teachers I made this one:http://classroomfengshui.com It is for sale and comes complete with a forum. If interested let me know.

Being listened to and being heard. Respect and honor. Lots to consider when dealng with people whether they are doctors, politicians, students or toilet cleaners. We all matter…all have feeings and worth. As said in (movie) Bill and Ted: “Be excellent to each other”.

Credentials? Hmmmmm…

Credentials, Titles, Honorifics, Hooey

It’s cold isn’t it?…The mentality that people with letters after their names, well… it seems to cause some effect of “aaah..we must listen to this person…they must be someone…they must know something…let’s pay them more…respect them more…honor them more…follow them…blah, blah, blah… pedestal, pedestal, pedestal…”

I say hooey. Pah! Bleaugh… A measure of a person’s wisdom, doesn’t necessarily match their credentials. Schooling doesn’t automatically mean smart, wise or worthy. A “sir”, “madaam”, “Phd”, “Dr” or any other title, graduate level or whatever does not mean someone is better, higher, more caring, more qualified than any other person. It all seems to boil down to classifying, judging, and pegging people ….and I don’t like it. So there.

I’m not worthy! Ahhhhhhh…..

Frosted Out Holiday?

Mind frost #1…a frosted out holiday?

Holidays…of all the observed holidays in the USA. Hmmmm…not one for the Native Americans. That’s not right. Kind of unbelieveable actually that one hasn’t been established by now. It’s shameful! It’s been attempted, you know. People have tried with petitions to Washington, DC to get a holiday for natives created. It HAS been labored over to create this holiday (Honor Day for August 20) …to get it established, but for some strange reason it doesn’t go through. Why?! Go here to see the recent stuggle and efforts of one woman, Silversong, to get this holiday made a reality:http://honorday.org/
